The Shop Floor Project - A hybrid of virtual department store & museum

The Shop Floor Project is truly a unique experience, not a thing often said about websites! Denise and Samantha Allan (mother and daughter) are the creative duo behind the project and wanted to create a virtual experience that allowed the customer to wander through and to connect with the objects on display.

Hand-made work by independent designers from all over the world are organised into departments such as, Wallpapers, Cushions, Kitchen Linen, Bags, Jewellery, Artists' Books, Knitwear, Shoes and more.

Along with the permanent collections on display, an online exhibition is launched four times a year. Contemporary Folk Ware, the forthcoming exhibition, will be launched on May 1st 2009 and features ceramics, jewellery and limited edition prints by artists and designers from across Europe who are inspired by rural folk traditions.

The website, and the objects housed within it, have gained much praise having been featured in Elle magazine’s Top 25 Websites, Vogue, Grazia, Marie Claire, Grand Designs, Stella, Style and the Independent on Saturday and will be featured in the new publication iCathing: innovative online shops
